Our Under-14 football tournament spans the whole of Marakwet, and it builds on two tournaments that came before it.

Where it started

The first MOMI football tournament kicked off over the December 2022 holidays and ended with a final on 8 January 2023. The second ran from 22 April to 7 May 2023, and added a girls' match alongside the men's. Both filled the hillsides around the pitch with families and fans.

Why Under-14

Starting young matters. A tournament for under-14s gives boys and girls a reason to train, to turn up, and to play as a team, at the age when habits are formed. It also gives coaches and parents a chance to spot talent early, and to point it towards school and opportunity, not away from it.

At our tournaments, football is the reason young people come together, but it is not the only thing they take home. Our first tournament ended with school fees paid for the best, most disciplined and most needy students, and with desktop computers for schools.

What we put behind youth football

Our Youth & Sports programme sponsors local leagues and inter-village tournaments, pairs young athletes with mentors from the community, and works with FKF on training for coaches and referees. Good coaching and fair refereeing matter as much as the matches themselves, they are how young players learn the game the right way.

Families on the hillside

Every match brings families out to cheer for their teams. The crowd is part of the game, and part of why young players keep coming back.
