After Kapsowar and Sengwer, the Momi Foundation football tournament came to Arror ward over the 2024 to 2025 holidays.

Ward by ward across Marakwet West

When the Sengwer ward chapter ended in April 2024, we set out a simple promise: the tournament would travel ward by ward until every ward in Marakwet West had hosted it. Moiben/Kuserwo, Cheborowa/Cherangany, Lelan and Arror were next, and every ward would be covered. A poll let fans have their say on the order, and Arror was the next stop.

Coming soon

On 27 December 2024 we shared the poster for the Momi Foundation Soccer Tournament, 2024 to 2025 edition, sponsored by Momi Foundation and held in Arror ward from 31 December to 1 January. Entry was free, because the aim was to get as many young players and teams as possible onto the pitch.

The finals

On New Year's Day 2025 the tournament reached its finals. The final pitted Kirbei FC, in yellow, against Samar FC, in red, the two sides meeting again in Arror. Kirbei FC won the final and the 2024 to 2025 Arror ward title. Both teams lined up on the dirt pitch before kick-off, with the hills of Arror behind them.

One step in a bigger plan

Arror was the third ward to host the tournament, after Kapsowar and Sengwer. Each chapter follows the same pattern: open entry, matches through the school holidays, a final in front of the community, and a chance for us to meet the young people and coaches of the ward.

A crowd under the mango trees

Fans of every age filled the shade of the mango trees around the ground and lined the touchline for every match.

Why it matters

A tournament in every ward gives young people across Marakwet West the same chance to play, to be seen and to belong to a team. It also builds the base for the sub-county league we are working towards, and the habits of discipline and teamwork that carry over into school and life. Along the way we have paid school fees for top students and brought computers to schools.
