The Moi Girls marathon
Students, scouts, the school band, guests and the Momi Foundation team came together on the field for the Moi Girls marathon.

On Saturday 10 June 2023, at the third Moi Girls' Kapsowar Charity and Conservation Race, students, scouts, the school band, guests and the Momi Foundation team came together on the field, a day of running, music and community.
A field full of runners
Students lined up across the field in their school uniforms, ready for the day ahead.

Music and parade
The school band led the ceremony, and scouts and pupils marched on parade in front of the guests.

Talks to the students
During the ceremony, guests and organisers addressed the students from under the tents, while the students listened from the field and the seats beside it.

Guests and organisers
Guests, teachers and organisers joined the students under the tents and out on the field.

The Momi Foundation team
Our team was on the ground for the event, in matching marathon T-shirts.

Why running
Running needs no pitch and no equipment, just a road, a field and the will to keep going. Elgeyo-Marakwet is home to Iten, known around the world as the Home of Champions, where many of Kenya's best runners train. A school marathon gives every student a chance to take part, whatever their level. It builds fitness, confidence and the habit of setting a goal and reaching it.
This is part of our wider sports work, from football at Moi Kapsowar Girls to the Under-14 tournament across Marakwet. Follow us on Facebook for the next race day.
Sport brings young people, schools and families together. Thank you to Moi Girls, the runners, the band, the scouts and every guest who made the day what it was.
