Teams, referees, fans and elders came together for the first edition of the MOMI football tournament, a celebration of young talent in Marakwet.

Teams, referees, fans and elders came together on Sunday 8 January 2023 for the first edition of the MOMI football tournament, a celebration of young talent in Marakwet, and the start of something we have kept building on.
Kick-off
The teams lined up in front of the tents before kick-off, with the referees and captains meeting in the middle.

On the pitch
The matches were played hard and fair, with plenty of goals and chances for the crowd to cheer.

The crowd
Families and fans filled the hillside around the pitch to watch every match.

Celebrating the players
The tournament closed with words from community elders and the presentation of jerseys and prizes.

What came out of the tournament
The final was also a moment to make commitments to the community, and to keep them:
- Desktop computers for schools, with a goal of reaching more than 28 schools
- School fees for the best, most disciplined and most needy students, paid on 27 January 2023
- Training for coaches and referees, with FKF support
- Asking the ICT office to open for people to learn coding and software from 1 February 2023, starting with 20 people
- Encouraging teachers to use the ICT lab and get trained for the CBC curriculum
- Encouraging young people to avoid drug misuse

The tournament returned for a second edition in May 2023, with a girls' match added.
Thank you to every player, referee, fan and elder who made the first MOMI football tournament happen. Sport gives young people in Marakwet a place to grow, and this was only the beginning.
