The Momi tournament in Sengwer ward: Kapterit beat Kapcherop
In the April 2024 holidays the Momi Foundation tournament came to Sengwer ward. On 7 April at Kamoi playgrounds, Chesubet/Kapterit beat Kapcherop 3 goals to 1 in the final.

In the April 2024 school holidays, the Momi Foundation football tournament moved beyond Kapsowar to Sengwer ward, home of the Kapcherop urban centre.
Why Sengwer
We announced the tournament on 8 March 2024. Our aim was to widen our sports reach across the whole of Marakwet West sub-county. Kapcherop is another thriving sports hub, and football is one of the best ways to reach its young men and women.
There was a bigger plan too. We used the tournament to gather statistics as we work towards piloting a stable sub-county football league that will span the entire Marakwet. The tournament poster called it the Momi Foundation Football Tournament, Piloting, April 2024 Cup, Sengwer Ward.
Discipline is cardinal
Before the games, we shared a photo of players sitting in a long row along a fence at the foot of the slope, patiently waiting for their turn on the field. Discipline on the touchline matters as much as skill on the pitch.
Final day at Kamoi
The final was played on Sunday 7 April 2024 at Kamoi playgrounds, and the ground was filled to capacity. Fans lined the touchline and packed in behind the goal nets, and you could feel the energy across the field.

Kapterit went ahead first, through a shot from Georgy that shook Kapcherop's net. By the final whistle Chesubet/Kapterit had beaten Kapcherop 3 goals to 1, in the most entertaining game of the day. Fans and players poured onto the pitch to celebrate. Hail Kapterit, the winners of this chapter.
Prizes and thanks
After the final, Momi Foundation officials thanked the fans and teams, and prizes were handed over under the tent to the winners and standout players.

What came next
Two days later we marked the end of the Sengwer chapter as a milestone for Marakwet West. With Kapsowar and Sengwer covered, the next stops were Moiben/Kuserwo, Cheborowa/Cherangany, Lelan and Arror wards, with a public poll to help decide the order. The tournament went to Arror ward over the 2024 to 2025 holidays.
Thank you to every fan who came to Kamoi in support of their teams. Read about where the tournament started, follow match days on Facebook, or support the next chapter.
