A girls' match, a men's match, a hillside full of fans and prize-giving into the night: the second edition of the MOMI football tournament.

On Sunday 7 May 2023, the MOMI football tournament returned for its second edition, this time with a girls' match alongside the men's, and a hillside full of fans from morning until well after dark.

The tournament ran from 22 April to 7 May 2023 in Kapsowar, with the final day on Sunday 7 May.

The day opened with the girls' teams lining up before kick-off, then a match played with real pace and commitment.

Next came the men's teams, with team photos before kick-off and the match officials ready in the middle.

Families and fans filled the hillside above the pitch to follow every match.

Prizes into the evening

After the final whistle, guests at the high table addressed the crowd, and prizes were handed out as the evening drew in, along with a framed, hand-drawn portrait.

One of the presentations at the evening ceremony was a framed pencil portrait by a local artist, read the story in Supporting Anselimo Arts.

What comes next

Earlier in 2023 we asked our community which other sport we should support that year, apart from football: athletics won the vote with 64% of 25 votes, ahead of basketball. Running is already part of our work, as at the Moi Girls marathon in June 2023.

Thank you to every player, official, fan and guest who made the second edition bigger than the first, and to the girls who showed that this tournament is for everyone.
