Momi Foundation nurtures talent in all its forms, on the pitch, in the classroom, and in the studio.

In December 2022, Ezrqn Kemboi, Evans Koech and the Momi team went to the studio with three musicians and two producers, one of them from Kapsowar, and helped them with music production. Together they produced three songs. One of the artists was Director D, in the yellow jacket, who went on to appear on Radio Citizen with Tugen Finest in April 2025.

Inside the studio

The session took place at A Sound Masters Records, a studio offering music and audio production, video production, and sound and PA systems. Producing a song is more than pressing record: the vocals and instruments are recorded, then mixed so every part sits well together, and finally mastered so the track sounds right on a phone, a radio or a sound system. Working with two producers on the tracks, one of them from Kapsowar, local skills grew alongside the music.

Why music

Music has been part of Momi Foundation's work from early on, alongside education and the MOMI football tournaments. For a young artist, a properly produced song is a calling card, something to share, to perform, and to build an audience with. A finished track can be shared online, played on local radio and performed at community events, reaching listeners far beyond Kapsowar.

Recording a song costs money that many young artists in Marakwet simply do not have. By covering studio time and production, we help talented musicians get their work heard.

Creative talent is talent too, and it deserves the same backing as sport and school. Read how we backed a local portrait artist in Supporting Anselimo Arts, and how our CEO spoke about youth talent on Kass TV. Follow new releases and studio sessions on Facebook and YouTube.
